Cake

Cake is an underrated online poker room that is available to both American and international poker players.

Cake poker is one of the few poker sites that resides on its own network, which is also home to sites like Unabomber Poker and PowerPoker.com.

The Cake Poker site itself is clearly the flagship room, though, with high-end software, a solid game selection, terrible players overall and some great promotions not offered by other major networks. The site offers numerous variants of Holdem, Omaha and Omaha Hi-Lo at levels to suit any bankroll but, as with most rooms, the majority of the traffic is in the low-stakes No-Limit Holdem games.

Cake Poker also has a strong player base that is expanding on a daily basis and now consistently ranks in the top 10 poker networks in the world. Subsequently the site is starting to offer some large guaranteed tournaments every week.

Competitors could learn a lot from Cake Poker's loyalty program, which offers six tiers of Loyalty Levels and three separate frequent player point-style rewards.

The Cake Poker software has also been upgraded in recent years to version 2.0, which includes a fully re-sizable lobby, direct registration, player stat tools and complete table customization. Cake Poker might not be the biggest online poker room in the world, but it's a revelation to jaded poker players.

Cake Poker offers an up to $1000 first-deposit bonus at 110% match for all new players. Bonus Payout Pending bonus cash is paid out in $10 increments based on the amount of frequent player points accumulated through real-money ring game or tournament play. Players earn 1 FPP for every dollar raked in real-money ring games and 7 FPPs for every $1 in tournament fees paid. It takes approximately 167 frequent player points to clear $10. Loyalty Program Cake Poker has a nice loyalty program that rewards players with Gold Chips, Gold Cards and Gold Stacks based on the amount of frequent player points generated.

Players have a "Gold Chip Meter" which awards Gold Chips when a certain amount of frequent player points is earned. Those chips can be used for instant prizes or tournament entries but they can also be collected until a player has a Gold Stack, which offers even more rewards. Gold Cards are a perk for ring-game players who spend a certain amount of time at the tables. There are a variety of prizes to be won including a $52,000 jackpot. Exclusive Offers for PokerListings players:  Weekly $500 New Depositor Freeroll On top of the 110% first depositor bonus, new depositing players will be awarded a seat in the weekly $500 Freeroll. Tickets to this tournament are automatically issued to new depositor player accounts

Next freerolls July 10, Aug. 14 and Sept. 11, 2011 at 20:00 GMT. Sign up through a PokerListings link and receive a $1,000 bonus at 110% deposit match Tourneys and freerolls Cake Poker has decent tournament volume overall plus several bigger tournaments although the $100,000 and the monthly $250,000 guaranteeds are no longer available. Cake Poker offers tournaments in Holdem, Pot-Limit Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo and occasionally Seven-Card Stud with Turbo and Deepstack options for Holdem tournaments. It also regularly runs cheap satellites for major live tournaments like the Aussie Millions and the Irish Open.

Recently Cake Poker has begun hosting a number of Bounty tournaments, which have been extremely popular with Cake regulars. Players looking to build their bankroll up from scratch will be happy to know Cake Poker runs lots of freerolls - especially for players who recently deposited.

Software and graphic The Cake Poker software is not flashy but it does offer an easy-to-use lobby, decent multi-table options and solid reliability. There are two basic table set-ups: one with a more realistic table and lifelike avatars and the other with a simple top-down table with no avatars. We like the straight forward one but some players may prefer the busier avatar-intense tables. It's worth noting the tables seem somewhat slower with avatars. Beyond that, the Cake Poker software offers all the standard features of a modern online poker room including player notes, seat selection, auto-rebuy, hand histories and a four-color deck. The recent 2.0 upgrade also includes fully customizable tables, re-sizable lobby, an advanced player stat function, tournament calendar and direct registration. There are some better software packages out there, but Cake Poker offers a few features those sites don't, including some of the worst poker players on the Internet.

Soft competition If you're looking for soft games, it's hard to go wrong with Cake Poker. There are some exceptions but players usually fall into two categories on Cake: loose and looser. There are tables where players will see a flop with almost any two cards. It's a great spot for an experienced player to take a seat and start picking off the fish. If you've read a single poker book you'll stand a better chance than most of the players on this site.
